Time to talk about one of the most famous beaches in the world! The Shipwreck beach of Zakynthos is indeed a shipwreck that washed away on a secluded beach of the island.

Today it is one of the most exciting attractions of the island. The wreck occurred in 1982, when the ship ‘Panagiotis,’ which belonged to a Kefalonian, was illegally transporting cigarettes from Turkey to an international destination.

The captain and the crew were also from Kefalonia, while the illegal cargo was accompanied each time by two Italian smugglers. They were there to supervise the delivery.

However, the ship, due to extremely adverse weather conditions and a damaged engine, went off. It soon fell on the rocks on the northwest side of Zakynthos. Until then, the beach was called Agios Georgios.

At first, the inhabitants were alarmed. They were troubled by the environmental catastrophe that they believed would create the specific ship with its cargo.

They were also worried about the potential wound in the island’s tourism. But after a while, it became an attraction for domestic and non-domestic tourists. It is no coincidence that international newspapers rank it among the 23 most beautiful beaches globally.

Today, the shipwreck is stranded in the center of an inaccessible beach. It can be visited only by sea and helicopter. Yet, thanks to the area’s inaccessibility, its waters remain crystal clear and transparent to this day. It’s mysterious allure makes it a top photo opportunity during a luxury Greece vacation.

Red Beach, Santorini

Santorini has some of the most beautiful beaches for couples. The fantastic Red beach is just a few steps from the archaeological site of Akrotiri. To reach it, you can leave your vehicle in the open parking lot near the bus stop and start an almost 2-minute descent. Alternatively, you can access it by boat from Akrotiri.

As soon as you step foot in it, you will see a wonderful volcanic palette. The colors of white, red and black dominate the famous beach. Dark blue waters, two canteens for coffee, snacks, and refreshments, as well as sun lounges and umbrellas, complete the picture.

This beach is undoubtedly the most popular and the most famous to the international public. For this reason, it is one of the beaches of Santorini that you will rarely experience alone or without many people. The Red Beach is one of those rare landscapes of Santorini that changes from year to year as it is shaped by wind, water, or erosion.

The beach service in Psarou is flawless, and it attracts high paying clientele on luxury vacations in Greece. There are many terrific suggestions for food and shopping. However, please beware that if you visit it during the months of July and August, the is a possibility that you’ll be overwhelmed by the large tourist masses. However, there won’t be such a problem; it is ideal and peaceful, perfect for a romantic getaway.

Another advantage of the beach is that despite the strong winds Mykonos is famous for, in Psarou, they subside. So book your sunbed ahead to ensure your spot on the beach. Once you’re there, wait until after 5-6 pm for the parties to start!

What to eat on a luxury vacation in Greece

Greek cuisine, with the variety and quality of its ingredients, wise, beneficial combinations, and the knowledge of centuries, enjoys a privileged position in the world culture of taste.

Our country is characterized by the number of its islands and the intense relief of the mainland. This morphological variety creates “worlds within worlds.” Standard features are the excellent raw materials and aromas of the fertile land: oregano, thyme, laurel, rosemary, lemon, and, of course, olive oil.

Fine low-fat meats, fresh fish, delicious scallops, and legumes are also in the center of the attention. What’s more, fruits, vegetables, and cheese that have been recognized worldwide steal the show and the hearts of those who taste them.

Among Greece’s traditional dishes are the famous fricassee with sour herbs, the caper salad, the ‘mastelo‘ (baked lamb with herbs and wine), the chickpea meatballs, and the gingerbread of Sifnos are our recommendations. Also, the macaroni, the fennel fritters of Serifos, the ‘sardoumia‘ of Santorini, and the honey of Anafi are just some of the many recipes of the Cycladic culinary tradition.

What’s more, the dishes of ‘burdeto,’ ‘sofrito,’ ‘pastitsada,’ ‘strapatsada,’ ‘tsigareli,’ as well as the famous ‘pastitsio,’ are recipes that incorporate centuries of history and culture.

Local drinks

Wonderful wines and unique drinks, such as kumquat liqueur and ‘tsitsimbira,’ but also sweets such as sponge cakes, nougat, and pastels are the accompaniments of the rich and delicate at the same time delicious culture of the Ionian.

The pilaf from Chania, with rooster and lamb, the famous ‘ofto’ goat that one can find everywhere in Crete, is incredible. The dessert of ‘kalitsounia‘ and ‘diples,’ the fresh salads with stamnagathi, the traditional dakos, the snail stew -don’t knock it till you try it!- are also worth a try.

What’s more, the cuttlefish with fennel and crushed olives, the stamnagathi greens with lamb, the avronies with eggs, the chestnuts stew, the meat cake are just some of the recipes of traditional Cretan cuisine.

You can taste all of the above and enjoy luxurious Greek and international cuisine meals all around Greece. Some of our top picks include the high-end award-winning restaurants of ‘Etrusco’ in Corfu, ‘Fresco’ in Chalkidiki, ‘Spondi,’ ‘Botrini’s,’ and ‘Hytra’ in Athens, ‘Varoulko Seaside’ in Piraeus, ‘Lauda,’ ‘Ovac’ and ‘Elements Restaurant’ in Santorini, ‘Matsuhisa Mykonos’ in Mykonos, ‘Noble Gourmet Restaurant’ in Rhodes, ‘Calypso’ and ‘Dionysos’ in Crete, and ‘Salonica Restaurant & Bar’ in Thessaloniki

The answer will not take you by surprise: the most luxurious Greek islands are Mykonos and Santorini. We couldn’t pick one of the two as both boast a different -yet equal- kind of luxury.

Regardless, in both of those destinations you will probably need thousands of euros for a few days, the money you will never regret spending. A honeymoon in Mykonos, a Santorini honeymoon, or even a casual trip there will be the highlight of your life.

The expensive islands are costly for a reason; they offer top-notch services and luxuries you wouldn’t dare think of. So sit back, relax with a glass of champagne in hand, and let the high-end establishments of those famous Cycladic islands treat you like royalty.

What’s the prettiest place in Greece?

This is subjective and depends on personal preference. However, in our opinion, the prettiest place in Greece lies in the Greek islands, and specifically the island of Santorini.

Alternatively, in the Greek mainland, our favorite destination due to its beauty, allure, and ambiance is the cosmopolitan city of Nafplio. Nafplio is a wonderful option for a Greek Valentine’s vacation as it’s often described as the most romantic city in Greece, and we agree.

A sunset from Bourtzi, a walk by the coastal road, and a stroll around its scenic alleys will transport you to another world and time, encapturing you and your partner in a bubble of beauty and love.

Marble bathrooms, kingsize beds, and Egyptian cotton sheets do not seem to be enough anymore. The new luxury is synonymous with personalized experiences – it begins and ends with making the visitor feel special.

There is no destination like Greece for luxury vacations, and the world knows it. Follow our ultimate guide to luxury vacations in Greece and ensure you spend your time in this beautiful country, pampered, well taken care of, and drenched in opulence.
